A green roof has more benefits than simply looking good. It can improve stormwater management by reducing run-off and preventing localised flooding. In summer it will protect the roofing material from direct solar gain, extending the lifespan of the waterproofing, and in winter it will help minimize heat loss through its additional insulation properties. It will also promote bio-diversity, serving as a natural habitat for local wildlife.
However, they are also undoubtedly more aesthetically pleasing than a conventional flat roof solution, as our recently completed project in Newburgh demonstrates. Our client was looking to extend their traditional granite property mindful that the a new roof would be visible from their upper floor and garden, so a robust sedum mat covering was the ideal solution for this north-east facing extension.
